Entrepreneurship!
Will’s early childhood entrepreneurship began shortly after his mom said, “You’re about to become a teenager“. She went on to say the following.
“You are old enough now to understand what I am about to tell you. You have younger brothers and sisters who also need new clothes. In fact, I need to buy clothes for all five of my children. Which we can not afford to do at this time.”
Will’s mom and dad were on a strict household budget. His dad did not cross a strike picket line at the Texaco refinery where he worked as a machinist. Refinery workers voted not to return to work.
Will’s dad did not agree with their vote to strike. However, he did not cross the strike picket line. It was two months before the Union agreed to a new contract. After returning to work his mom and dad’s priority was to catch up on past-due bills.
Will’s mom went on to say the following. How do you think not being able to provide for what my children need makes me feel? Right at that moment it was like time just stopped. Will noticed tears in his mom’s eyes. However, she quickly wiped them away. Before she could speak again, Will simply replied. Its ok mom. Like you said, sewing up my blue jeans where they are torn is ok mom.
Will spun around quickly. Walked through the kitchen as fast as he could. He was quite upset with himself. He had caused a problem that upset his mom and he was beside himself to say the least. He went out the back-door of the kitchen in a flash. He wanted to get away from the problem he had caused his mom to confront. The lack of money to purchase school clothes and for over-due bills.
Once he was outside. He began to hear two mocking birds chirping. He thought to himself, Wow! It sounds like they are singing to each other. He began to calm down and walked over to a back-yard swing-set of his younger brothers and sisters. He sat down on one of the swings. Started swinging back and forth thinking the following to himself.
“I need to find a way to help my mom and dad make money.
Early Childhood Entrepreneurship!
Little did Will know back then it was the day he began an early childhood entrepreneurship. Life made it necessary one day for a young boy to begin an early childhood entrepreneurship after a nudge from his mother. He began a bit of strategic thinking about ways to make money before the age of twelve.
